The Luminate Midyear Music Report for 2023 has just been released and the data shows that in the United States, Spanish music and K-Pop, are the most popular music genres.
Since 2021, the consumption of music and songs in Spanish increased 3.6% in Luminate's list per their sample. While English-language music experienced a 4.2% decline over the same period, per the study.
There are further details in the study if you would like to read it here. But what I really think is driving this increased growth in Spanish and K-Pop music, International music, as in foreign music is coming from immigrants and the children of immigrants from Spanish people and Koreans (Korean-Americans in America, Boston University) in the country. Since Anglo-Americans do not tend to like to listen to music that is not in English. So I doubt it is them driving that growth in International music here in the U.S. They tend to be pretty close-minded and want English-language music to be the dominant music listened to around the world. But unfortunately, for Anglo-Americans you cannot fight demographics changes. This shift in culture (one could argue at a global scale) will allow people to embrace foreign music and considering the American music market drives the global music trends eventually people might be more willing to listen to Japanese music, I think. Something good for TK.
Especially when I take a look at TK's Spotify stats and Chile is a Spanish-language country that again and again is there consuming TK's music whether for his solo work or his band. Another point to mention is that Chileans are heavy consumers of anime. Something interesting to keep in mind.
